An eReader Christmas? Black Friday Specials

  • Sumo

I dropped by my parents’ house this morning to help my mom put her twenty-five pound turkey in the oven. They received the morning Flint Journal, so after the bird was in the oven I sat down and flipped through the Black Friday (or now Thursday in most cases) circulars. I don’t plan on being in a store today or tomorrow, but in case you are looking for a new eReader for your QA process or for a gift, I wanted to share what I saw. Most of these stores are national American chains and will be familiar to U.S. shoppers, but some may be Midwest regional stores. Follow the links to each stores circular.

Walmart

Not much to see at Walmart. They have the Amazon Kindle Fire for $199 and the Amazon Kindle Special Offer for $79.

Best Buy

Best Buy has the Pandigital Multimedia Novel 7″ Reader for $69.99 (regular prices is $119.99). The iPad2 is shown at regular price, but Best Buy will give you $45 off any iPad2. They also have the NOOK Simple Touch Reader for $79.99.

Radio Shack

Radio Shack has the Velocity Micro Cruz for $99.99, which they say is $50 off the regular price. They are selling the Kindle with Special Offers for the regular $79 but are offering an accessory bundle for $24.99 that usually sells for $54.98. The NOOK Color is $199, but you get a free $20 gift card with in-store purchase. They also have the Pandigital Novel 6″ Reader for $49.99, $40 off the regular price.

Kmart

Kmart has two items that might for of interest: the Velocity Cruz R102 7″ eReader for $69.99 (regularly $99.99) and the Nextbook eReader for $119.99 (regularly $199.99).

Target

Target has one deal, but it’s a pretty good one: the Amazon Kindle Keyboard 3G with Special Offers for $85, $54 off the regular $139 price.

Office Depot

Office Depot has a great deal on the 32 GB HP Touchpad Tablet if you still want one: it is $149.99 with any HP PC purchase, a savings of $350 off the regular $499.99 price. They also have the base Amazon Kindle for $79.99 and the Amazon Kindle Fire for $199.99, and with any Kindle you can but the M Edge case for $9.99 (regularly $29.99).

Office Max

There are lots of eReaders in the Office Max flyer, but not much in the way of deals. The have the NOOK Simple Touch for $99 and the NOOK Color with WiFi for $199. They also have the Amazon Kindle Fire for $199, Kindle with Special Offers for $79, Kindle Keyboard WiFi with Special Offers for $199, and the Kindle Keyboard 3G with Special Offers for $139.

Staples

If you need some office supplies to go with your Christmas shopping (and who doesn’t?), Staples has some of the best eReader deals due to the free gift cards they are giving away with purchases. The NOOK Color is $199 (and they include a “Save $50” badge next to it but this is the same price you’ll find on the B&N site) but you get a $25 Staples Gift Card. The NOOK Simple Touch is $99 (and again they claim “was $139/save $40” when this price matches the B&N site), but you get a $20 Staples Gift Card. Amazon’s readers have similar deals: The Kindle WiFi with Special Offers is $79 with a $15 Staples Gift Card; the Kindle Touch WiFi with Special Offers is $99 with a $20 Staples Gift Card; the Kindle Touch 3G with Special Offers is $149 with a $20 Staples Gift Card. The Kindle Fire is $199; no Staples Gift Card with this one though.

Sears

Sears is the only store I found with one of the Kobo eReaders. They have the Kobo WiFi eReader for $79.99, a savings of $20.

Menards

Menards always has some strange things in their ads, and the Black Friday circular is no exception so I had to include it. They have something I haven’t seen anywhere else: a 7″ Polaroid Tablet for $79.99 after a $10 mail-in rebate (they say the regular price is $149.99).

Meijer

Meijer has a great deal on the the Amazon Kindle WiFi with Keyboard for$89 (it’s $139 from Amazon), plus they will give you $25 off your next Meijer shopping trip.

Big Lots

Big lots always has so interesting items in their Black Friday circular, and this year is no different. Two that will read eBooks: the new 9″ Pandigital Tablet for $79, an $80 savings off the regular price of $159.99, and the Aluratek eBook Reader Pro for $47, $32 off the regular price of $79.99.

Amazon

I just had to add one of the funniest deals of the day, from Amazon, no less. They have discounted the Kindle DX from $379 all the way down to $259. On the page where they announce it they also show the Kindle Fire with its color screen for $199. I don’t know who is going to jump on this “deal,” but I wanted to let you know about.

Are you planning to buy a new eReader or tablet for yourself of someone else? Have you found other good deals? Let everyone know in the comments section below.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving if you live in the United States. If you don’t, please forgive our day (and weekend) of traditional excess, and have a great weekend.
